Our Story
Runnels Secondary is an extension of Runnels Educational Services, founded by Rebecca Runnels in 2011. Approved by the Louisiana Department of Education for the 2024-2025 school year, Runnels Secondary offers virtual high school course content. The name, Runnels Secondary, is a tribute to the Runnels School which was in operation in Baton Rouge, LA from 1965 to 2020. Rebecca Runnels is the daughter of the founders and a former student, teacher and administrator at Runnels School.
Prior to obtaining state approval, Runnels Educational Services operated as a nonpublic school without seeking state approval. Over the past decade, Runnels Educational Services provided full-time instruction at different times for students in grades 5 and 7-11, as well as distance learning and hybrid courses for students enrolled full-time at other schools, including Runnels High School.

Our Vision
We strive to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment where every student can thrive. In the spirit of our namesake, we value the strengths and unique talents of each individual student. Our goal is to provide quality courses for students who cannot, for whatever reason, take the course or courses they need or desire at a traditional school. Students may enroll for 1 or 2 classes to supplement their regular school schedule or may enroll as full-time Runnels Secondary students.
